Foam earplugs are made from either polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or polyurethane (PU), also known as memory foam. The foam is rolled and placed into the ear canal where it expands to plug the opening of the ear. There is a disadvantage to these as they often unroll and do not provide a good seal. Custom earplugs on the other hand, are made from a custom mold of the user’s ear and so precisely fit the individual’s ear shape. They also provide higher noise isolation.
